Has anyone out there had experience of returning a contract hire car before the end of its contracted term without having to pay an early termination figure?

I have been told that if you have successfully paid your instalments for over half of the contracted term, in my case its a two-year deal that ends in March 08, you can send the car back without fear of paying an early termination figure?

I am not sure if it is legally binding to do it but almost one of these 'unwritten' laws?

If any one has any ideas or experience of this, I would be really grateful to hear about it.

Checking your contract and calling up and asking would probably be the best methods, as not all contracts are the same.

I think you are probably confusing this with hire purchase where you can return the car when 50% of the TOTAL amount due has been paid i.e. by car for 8K plus 2 k charges means you could return the car when you had paid 5k back. In your case I dont think that would apply, but I stand to be corrected!
