Child Tax Credits Renewals

I'm currently looking at separating from my husband and although things are currently amicable I'm expecting things will change once he moves out. At that point I will be changing from a joint CTC claim to a single but I'm concerned once the time comes to renew he will refuse to complete his side of the paperwork (a divorce is something only I want and refusing to complete his side of the CTC renewal is the only leverage he has at this time) so my question is this:
If he refuses to provide income details will I be asked to pay back the tax credits from the previous year? (He went self employed late last year and is yet to do any tax returns)
Also, will my single claim be stopped until he provides evidence?
I'd appreciate any advice on the matter, my only alternative is to call CTC but I've found it can sometimes depend on who answers the phone as to what advice you get plus I don't want to feel pressured into giving them dates we will be separating because I'm not at that stage yet.
Thanks in advance!

For the 2017/18 renewal (which will be due in a July 2018), if this wasn't completed for the joint claim you'd be overpaid any payments received in the joint claim from April 2018 onwards. You wouldn't need to repay the previous year.
If he is employed they'll like get his income details from RTI anyway.
It's have no impact on the single claim because it's a single claim and nothing to do with him.0
