Council Tax Benefit & Supporting Documents

Hello

I am currently receiving council tax benefit because I have no income and limited savings. I am also not receiving any benefits from the DWP and so had to apply for council tax benefit on the basis on Nil Income and provide the council with 2 months of previous bank statements.

When a new council tax bill is issued in April, does anyone know if I will need to go through the whole process again and provide more bank statements? Or will the council just ask me if my circumstances have changed since their last assessment?

I understand that all councils have slightly different rules, so you may not be able to give me an exact answer for my council which is Shropshire, but any advice will be appreciated...

Thanks :-)

For an ongoing claim you'll usually just be asked to declare any change in circumstances.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

As you say different councils have different rules and in our area, discount is limited to 80% so everyone has to pay something.

Normally the policies with regards to CTR is on the council website but from this link (not allowed to post yet) it appears your council is undergoing change. You would be best to ask them directly than here unless there is someone from Shropshire that can answer it.
Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.

The law is like an ocean - have a swim but don't drown.
