Why are posts ruined with all these !!!8217 !!!821

Options
!!!8217s have been messing up any posts that contain apostrophes. Any idea why this is occurring? Is it a MSE problem, or, in my case, just an IOS (iPad) issue?

Are others using Microsoft OS having the same issue?

I did read on another thread that it was a fruit based issue, but clearly not all devices as my posts from an iPhone are fine.
So a combination of MSE and particular devices, I think.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • It happens for me when I copy/paste from a doc that has the 'curly' apostrophes as opposed to the 'straight' ones. A search/replace in a basic text editor before copy/paste here sorts it.

I'm sure it's only recently started happening though! I use MacOS.

I think I might have solved it (for me, at least).

It’s been simply a case of going to the ‘Settings’ page on the iPad, selecting ‘General’, > ‘Keyboard’, > ‘Text Replacement’, then instructing the system to replace with a .

Yep, replace the same symbol with exactly the same symbol, but it works ...... for me ...... at the moment!

I use an Android device with Chrome and while I don't get it when I type a post I did get it in some text I copied and pasted from a web page, so it seems like a MSE problem to solve.

I'm wondering if that work around has fixed it for me?

    It looks like it has.
