Parking Ticket

i parked in Morrisons Brighton & paid £3 for a ticket for 2 hours on the 9th Dec 2017,on the 4th Jan 2018 i received a fine via post saying i had parked for 1.20mins and hadnt paid, lucky for me i still had parking ticket which i sent to them via email.they replied saying the following
The signage located at the above car park advises all motorists to enter their full, correct
vehicle registration into the payment machine. It has come to our attention that the incorrect vehicle registration was inputted on the date of the parking event which has therefore resulted in a Parking Charge being issued. As a gesture of goodwill we would like to offer you the opportunity to make a discountedpayment of £20.00.we must warn you that if this balance is
not paid within 14 days from the date of this correspondence, the Parking Charge will
increase to the original value.
The thing is i put the last 3 digits of my number plate which is correct,i have parked there before and only put the last 3 letters in however they must have changed this to full reg,why did the machine not say error and ask for full reg.please can you advise me.Thanks in advance

What happened when you complained to the Morrisons Manager, as you would?

If you search the forum for the single keyword 'Morrisons' you will find an email address to complain to, where M's usually cancel these within 48 hours.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I haven't complained to Morrison's but i will do that later,
if Morrison's dont cancel it then what`s my chances of winning the appeal as this was a genuine mistake,as I did pay for the ticket and haven't gone over the time, just that they must of changed it from putting the last 3 letters of your number plate to full reg,i dont understand why the machine gave me a ticket with only 3 letters if i needed full reg.
    Thank you for you advice.

Morrisons Head office always cancel, read some threads and do it tonight, should be cancelled by Friday. do that BEFORE POPLA is started, now, urgently by email.

Your task is to search the forum for 'Morrisons email' - no link from me (I never do!).

  • I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your advice,I contacted Morrison's via email,i also phoned them and they called me back the next day saying they would cancel it & followed it up with an email saying the following,

I am pleased to confirm that we have issued instructions for this Parking Charge Notice to be cancelled.
Unfortunately due to the abuse we have on these car parks we have to have these controls in place but we are happy to look at, and cancel where necessary.
Thank you once again for getting in touch and please come back and see us soon.

I am now waiting on a letter to confirm cancellation.without this forum i would not have known what to do,I feel that i got a lot of valuable advice from the forum.

    Many thanks.

Glad to hear it! Plan A with these 'outrageous scam'* PCNs is always complain to the retailer.

*Hansard, MPs' debate about the out of control 'cowboys' two weeks ago. Watch the debate, it's not boring and will open your eyes to how the entire industry is wayward, to say the least.

The industry is rotten and MPs need to step in. If total victims and scammed numpties didn't pay, and if the DVLA had not opened the gate a decade or so ago, to allow private firms to get data, the industry would not have grown like it has done, now out of control.

Did you watch the Parliamentary debate on Friday 2nd February, linked here:

    http://parliamentlive.tv/event/index/2f0384f2-eba5-4fff-ab07-cf24b6a22918?in=12:49:41

Watch it in full & read the transcript also linked there. You need to know the lie of the land, get wise. You will learn loads from the Parliamentary debate alone and should join the clamour to complain to your own MP as victims who escaped, didn't pay, but are angry.
