No idea if charged PPI

How can I reclaim PPI if I have no paperwork & no idea if I have been charged it by the many financial institutions I have used over the years ?
Thanks for any advice

You contact the financial institutions concerned. If they still have a record they can confirm.

    No. PPI isn't interest.
  • No. PPI isn't interest.
Nor is it "hidden" in the interest.
  • Thank you for your replies.i asked the question because whenever I was asked I refused it.so no ppi for me. Hope it clears it up for others.
  • Following on from my first post.i did in fact pay £600.00 ppi against a mortgage that turned out to be for the benefit of the mortgage company not for me for shortfall on the sale following my bankruptcy. Would this apply as I was told if I didn't take it out I couldn't have the mortgage.and could I claim that even though I went bankrupt.any ideas.thank you again.
  • That's not PPI either. That's mortgage indemnity.

You needed to have it if you wanted the mortgage.

PPI is a product. It is not a catchall for anything you want it to be.

MIG is not PPI. Car insurance is not PPI. House insurance is not PPI. Only PPI is PPI.

  • Does anybody know if I can claim PPI my mortgage company would not give me a mortgage on a first house unless I had PPI. They said it did not need to be with them so i had ppi with legal and general. I cancelled it 5 years later as i felt it would not benefit me

    Multiple issues here.
You do not "claim" PPI, you have to make a robust complaint that it was somehow mis-sold.

The mortgage company didn't sell you PPI, you bought it elsewhere.

Difficult to see how you can accuse Legal & General of mis-selling since they didn't tell you that you had to have it to get the mortgage.

Nobody "sold" you the insurance, you bought it.

Why didn't you complain about the PPI when you cancelled it?
