Well done Santander

Options
I have a very old everyday saver with Santander. I opened it donks ago and I was getting a whopping 5.5% interest on it. I haven't used it for years and completely forgot about it, until I started receiving emails from them telling me not to divulge my passwords, follow email links, etc.
I logged on to it this morning and it had the grand total of 36p in it. So I rang Santander fully expecting to be told that I would have to go into branch with ID and my card to close it.
No! A nice young chap went through security, asked what I wanted to do with the 36p and closed it there and then. Five minutes max. I was impressed :T
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

What did you spend the 36p on?
  • Have you reinvested the 36p in the next shiny dizzy thing?

They have a charity of the month for bits of change like this, it's Bernados this month.

That's a nice example of common sense prevailing over bureaucracy for once.

I could make almost exactly the same post myself today - I had an old Alliance and Leicester Giro account that I thought was long closed. Having got some Santander emails that concerned me because they contained my full name, I just filed them away until I read a post on here mentioning that Santander took over A&L.

So as I was intending opening a second 'reserve' bank account, I wondered if I could resurrect and re-open it. They started the process over the phone and I completed it today in branch. They were cheerful, helpful and used my name when addressing me and were able to answer all my questions fully. The staff on the phone were just as obliging.

My new stuff has all be ordered and I came away feeling pretty impressed that they treated customers how banks used to and it felt like a breath of fresh air.

So, another thumbs up from me! I had the massive fortune of 55p left.

I hope the phone call didn't cost more than 36p?
