Google Sheets formula advice

Hello

I have created a spread sheet with various tasks to be completed before a project starts.

I would like to reuse the template for different projects so I would like to create formulas that automatically fills 'complete by dates'.

For example, a project starts on 1st August 2018. I have 10 tasks that need to be completed at various times in the run up to that date ie 10 weeks before, 9 weeks before.

Is it possible to create formulas so I can enter the 'D Day' and then all the previous dates get prefilled?

    I think you are trying to use the wrong programme.

    Spreadsheets are not designed for this purpose.
    I think you would be better off with a Project Management programme such as MS Project.
    I think Google have an alternative called G Suite.
    Or try Open Project as another alternative, if you are hoping to do this on the cheap. (MS Project is not cheap)

    [FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]I expect dates are held as numbers so if you put your start date in cell A1 then in cell A2 enter the formula =A1-7 the date shown in A2 will be 7 days before the date in cell A1[/FONT]

    as above^^^ at that level of functionality Google Sheets works just like Excel does

    the date is shown as a date, but underlying that visible appear is actually simply a number, so -7 from the contents of a cell with a "date" in it will produce a date 7 days earlier

    D Day = the manual date you input and is the cell which all other formulas reference against
    all other dates shown in the other cells are then the formulas as explained above
