Fasthosts Hacked! Change passwords

Just got an email saying Fasthosts have had an intrusion on one of their servers and they may have had access to usernames and passwords. They advise changing all passwords (obviously) on Fasthosts. It's a pain. Thought I'd let people know in case they haven't checked their email (or are suspiciously having access problems or connecting to their email etc).

I can tell what are scam emails and what aren't (I don't get spam any more because I give everyone a unique email address). This was sent to my fasthosts email address, a scam wouldn't have been sent there. Also I verified the IP address was from fasthosts and just to double check: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/10/18/fasthost_police_hack_investigation/

I changed mine anyway, no harm in doing it to be on safe side.

Exactly. I mean it wasn't as if the email that was sent had a phishing link in or anything. I'm rather disappointed they didn't post anything through their RSS feed.

Woby_Tide, there is more to things that meet the unaware eye...

Fasthosts got hacked in October; told customers to change their passwords; last week found that some accounts (of customers who had not changed password) had had their FTP space 'compromised'.

They are now sending out new passwords to all customers by post and people cannot get into their accounts till the new passwords have been received.

    Hence the defections...perfectly logical.

Doesn't justify people spamming the forum though. I think fasthosts are only doing what they can, I think the posting of passwords only affect the people who ignored the advice on changing passwords. E.g. my fasthosts accounts are all perfectly active and working. I'm as disappointed as anyone. I mean it was me who started this thread! I for one won't change hosts but even if I were I take a dim view of those companies that have to spam to get attention and I shan't be using their custom. Instead I'm reporting them.

If there's any doubt geeza is a spammer just look at his previous post where back then he claimed to have "found" vouchers in a magazine for that site. So I'm guessing he found so many vouchers he now owns the company/site?

I'd be more disappointed with the fact that they don't store the passwords in an encrypted format.
