We are thinking of going to Leeds for the weekend 23 -25 November staying at the Hilton. Has anyone stayed there and if you have, what is the location like, rooms and anything else you might know about it. Or can you recommend anywhere better?
We have just turned 60 so don't want to do a bar crawl so are they any places we will have an enjoyable meal, not looking for cheap and cheerfull.
Also are there any theatres with anything good on.
What is the shopping like?
Thanks for any help you might be able to give

Have never stayed at The Hilton only been there for a drink.
Location is within very easy walking distance of the city centre shops, restaurants, theatres etc.
Depends what sort of shopping you are after but there is something for all tastes.
Plenty of designer shops Harvey Nichols is worth a look around.
Not sure about whats on at the Theatre but some links below might help

Try Malmaison Hotel it is lovely, also right in the centre of Leeds. There is an offer on at present see this link http://www.malmaison-leeds.com/indulge/offers
Nice Thai restaurant http://www.chaophraya.co.uk/ check here too for review and details about other restaurants http://www.sugarvine.com/leeds/search/restaurant_search.asp?restaurant=236670 -
Anthony's is currently the place to go in Leeds, but is probably fully booked. Three month waiting list last time I heard.
Raymond Blanc has also just opened a restaurant, but this may well be booked out too.
If you like Far Eastern food I can recommend Georgetown.

Excellent food and service and in the evenings they have a live pianist.
Harvey Nicks has a restaurant too.
If you like Indian the Aagrah near the bus station is always busy due to the great food it serves.0 -
The Hilton in Leeds has an interesting mix of rooms. The standard ones are tired, threadbear and uninviting. The executive ones are quite nice. The junior suites are like the standard ones only much bigger.
It's difficult to get a bad curry in Leeds (but not impossible).0 -
Leeds is great, easy to explore on foot and very, very good for shopping. Lots of little arcades, places to eat, and the Corn Exchange has some unusual shops as well as occasional craft fairs.:A0

Starting at the end of November is The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds. It is the same production that was on in 2004 and got really good reviews.
As for restaurants there are loads to suit everyone's taste, shopping likewise.
The Hilton is a bit tired, and although it's quite central right next to the train station it's not particularly inspiring. How about Malmaison, The Marriott (get a room at the front or side though as there is a popular nightclub right behind it), Quebecs, Radisson SAS, or for something smaller 42 The Calls. All are pretty nice I think. The Radisson is in The Light which is a very nice smallish shopping/entertainment centre which has a few restaurants in. 42 The Calls is about 10mins slow walk from the centre but is on the river in one of the older parts of town.0 -
Prepare to be pestered by Big Issue sellers, people representing charitable causes who want your details (not money) but are still a little pushy, and also people with clipboards who claim to be monks and will try get you to say "gouranga" and happily take your money.0

I would second Malmaison - the rooms are divine and easy to walk into the city centre. The Leeds Playhouse is very good, but my favorite is the Grand - one of the nicest theatres I have ever been in and home to the excellent Northern Ballet - if you can catch one of their productions you are in for a great treat:

There's also the world famous City Varieties:

Both these are in the City Centre. Shopping is brilliant - the Victorian Quarter is beautiful and full of gorgeous shops. The Corn Market houses the current market and is a stunning building.
Other places of interest are the Royal Armouries - close to Malmaison and free entry - sometimes have jousting on and the Butterfly house in Roundhay park. Hope you have a great weekend.0
