Water Leak insurance claim help

I had a slow water leak which was coming from the waste pipe on the bathtub which looks to have been causing damage for some time. My bathroom is totally tiled in, including the bath. I have called a plumber out and he has fixed the leak but has had to remove 2 large tiles and has had to cut a hole in the plyboard to access the pipes ( yes the stupid plumber never installed a access hatch!!!) He said the floor boards are rotted and need replacing. I have called teh insurance company and they have given a humidifier and said the will come back in a few days but the bath has to be removed to assess the actual damage of the floor boards ( in his opinion they nee replacing but its up to the insurance company on what he can do, so I will find out more when the bath has been removed). My issue is that I have no extra tiles one is already broken and the removal of a tiled in bath will result in more damage. Reading policy notes they not liable for replacing matching items and I think that includes tiles!!!!
Totally jumping the gun but I think that they should replace the tiles? I can understand them not buying a new bath etc but if the floor boards need replacing under the bath its going to cause a lot of damage with the removal of it so they should cover the cost of the tiling?

Has anyone else had any dealings with this? Also this has got me thinking my shower doesn't work so if Im going through the rig maral of having this ripped out I might aswell replace that too. Based on the fact that the items will have to be removed to tile Would the insurance company let me purchase new items and they fit that instead of the old ones?

if it is not covered on the T+C then you likely won't get it. Like for like matches are not always possible with different tile colours being phased out.


who are you insured with? if you went for the cheapest home insurance, then their exclusions will likely be more

Get a wooden, white painted or plastic bath panel. They aren't going to re-tile your entire bathroom so it matches.

If you look at the small print most policies say they won't do 'matches' e.g. if you damage one kitchen cupboard door, they're not going to replace all your doors. The white panel is the best option you're probably going to get.

Your insurer should provide a contribution of 50% for undamaged items in a set (not sure if this would extend to things like tiles though, or it could set precedent for things like roof tiles...).

The 50% is from a FOS precedent which any insurer worth their salt should be aware of. Suggest this to them, if they don't agree then follow the complaints procedure outlined in your policy wording.

I was thinking that would be the case looking through some example cases on the FOS. Do they contribute 50% of the cost towards actual tiling or it is just materials?
