A seller once did a 'BIN for theoretica only' for me. I don't know if this might be an option still with current policies.

That is perfectly Ok as long as any eBay messages between you and the seller didn't trigger an eBay bot to think you were attempting to deal off eBay. However that doesn't help at all with the issue I was having.

  • It sounds like they may have just been speculating. I totally understand why you wouldn't want to put that up in a listing. Sometimes customers ask for a price for "every size and every combination" and they are speculating, not looking to buy a particular item, and I rarely have time to entertain them if I have to set aside a lot of time to work figures out on some combination I don't actually sell.

There has been an update on this - and perhaps the potential buyer knows something I don't about a potential market.

I've had a few random items up for sale on and off for about 6 months I sell the occasional one and usually just list one more to replace it, but sales are very slow. Yesterday overnight I sold 2 to a buyer in Arizona and 1 to a buyer in Texas . As I now have their email addresses I have sent both buyers a message explaining that I have more of the set plus the later re production models and to contact me direct if they are looking for any more for their collections.

So perhaps my potential buyer is also a seller who wanted them for resale.

To say stuff your items sounds like you were lucky they didn't buy any of your items, a potential problem buyer who I'd probably block.

My thoughts exactly, I'd regard this as dodging a bullet more than missing a sale.
  • eBay need to protect their business. If you look at it from their perspective, there are millions of users using their services each day if everybody cottoned on that they could just use it as a free/inexpensive way to advertise their goods to the world, they'd lose a ton of income. It's impossible to keep tabs on that many people, which is why they've implemented the auto searching of "trigger words". Don't worry about the customer friendly side of things a simple please or sorry will go a long way. It's not worth risking your account over. :)
