Except there wasn't in this case. Had the OP taken the advice of many posters on here, they'd have accepted the earlier offer. Instead they've taken advice from the one post that actually applied the law and got a decent resolution.

Wouldn't expect the majority on here to acknowledge that though, just the usual anti-consumer bitterness.

This isn't true. As well as ThumbRemote's advice, posts 23, 24, 25, 35 & 36 are helpful because they go into a bit of depth. Compare those to most of the replies on page 1 and the difference is quite stark. For example, take the first reply (post #2), which misquotes what happened and is then liked by 11 people! I realised at that point I was up against it, but generally find that such forums are worth persevering with because among the many unhelpful replies will be a few people who can steer you towards the relevant legislation.

And that's what happened!

Thanks for the advice, in particular to ThumbRemote, who was one of the few on this thread to refer to what the law actually states.
Wickes were very apologetic and the new hob is in place.
I have to say I was quite surprised with some of the replies, but not to worry. The new hob is working beautifully

Just make sure you don't drop anything on the edge again, I would have pushed for a replacement with a metal surround as I doubt you'll be getting a second good will gesture replacement, but hey, you live and learn.
