This thread now a couple of years old but it's still a very good question. As far as I can see David Wilson are/were better in several different ways, EXCEPT that they may or may not be better value if/when you come to sell depending on how the market falls.
Please please please if you are new to property and reading this, employ a surveyor to checkout any prospective purchase new or old, with a full structural survey. For anything identified by the surveyor then use an expert builder you can trust to give you an estimate.
NHBC are a great organisation publishing a.version.of the current building standards for free if you have time to read and understand, but you really need to know what liabilities you are buying, which likely dwarf the surveyors fee. You may well not spot what's wrong with your house until the guarantee runs out. Also the building standards have sensibly had many improvements and corrections over the years. Good luck !0
