IKEA worktop with Belfast sink?

Hi we are getting our kitchen redone and I would like a Belfast sink. I have just discovered you can’t reallh get a Belfast sink and laminate worktop as it will swell/blow and I’ve been told we need solid wood. Does anyone know if this IKEA worktop would suffice? It has a 3mm top layer of solid oak over particleboard.

It is the particle board that is the problem. It!!!8217;s essentially sawdust and glue. As soon as it gets wet, it will swell. The sides of worktops show next to the sink as the level of the sink is lower than the tops. You will see the particleboard anyway.

You even need to be careful with solid wood worktops. Belfast sinks look lovely but the worktops need regular maintenance to keep them sealed (the raw edge that faces the sink is just waiting to start sucking up the water) and dirt and water is prone to getting down the sides of the sink. It is not a good idea to do anything cheaply around a belfast sink.

An inset ceramic sink is a practical compromise.

Hi I wanted a belfast sink but was worried about worktop issues as I couldnt really afford granite etc. I have seen many wooden worktops and belfast sinks that look awful after a while because of water damage and didnt want that. I went for the IKEA sink that is ceramic but fits over the worktop so hopefully gives more protection (if you see what I mean!)

I have a belfast sink with butchers block worktops, I thought it looked amazing when I moved in, however its all going, it is very impractical. My dishwasher broke, you have absolutley nowhere to drain anything, its wash a dish dry it on to the next, I personally would look at something else.

We went for the Ikea ceramic sink with solid oak worktops too. It is a decent compromise and the worktop is well enough protected but it still needs regular care and attention, as well as all spills/splashes wiping up. I would not risk particleboard.

I have seen people have a different worktop around their Belfast sink with wood elsewhere and it can look nice, so may be worth considering.
