hanson was a conglomerate that was split up into 4 separate companies in 1996. shareholders in hanson at that point also received shares in 3 new companies: imperial tobacco, the energy group, and millennium chemicals. see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanson_(company)
imperial tobacco has been renamed imperial brands, and is still a listed share. the other 3 companies have since been taken over (according to wikipedia, anyway).
i'm not sure if there's a time limit on claiming cash from take-overs which happened some time ago. perhaps the simpler avenue to start with is asking imperial brands' registrar if he's on the share register.
raglan properties seems to have been taken over in 2000. see https://www.investegate.co.uk/raglan-properties--rgln-/rns/compulsory-acqn-of-shares/200008231150348667P/0
