Mouth ulcers

Hi
I have struggled all my life with ulcers but not so bad as in my late teens early twenties, where even hot drinks had to be drank through a straw. Have tried bonjela, that horrid yellow stuff in a tube from the doctors that goes more over your teeth than the ulcer and feels like wallpaper paste (not that I eat wallpaper paste you understand!). I finally found relief with what used to be called Corlan pellets - used to be available on prescription only but are now available from the pharmacist. They are oral hydrocortisone pellet 2.5mg buccal tablets. Idea is that they are placed on the ulcer and then dissolved. Hard to balance in our mouth at times but it is doable. They are the only thing I use now. Best of luckI got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.0 -

This thread is worrying me.
Hormones can cause an increase in 'oral ulceration' - but this would be ulcers popping up all over your mouth, not one coming up in the same place again and again. If it's an ulcer reappearing in exactly the same place every time - then please get to a dentist next time it's there, and let them have a good look at it.
My best guess for the cause of this (if it is an ulcer in the same place every time) is probably a rough bit of tooth or filling, or maybe a condition like Lichen Planus (Which in itself does need an eye keeping on it) But neither of those are going to go away by taking vitamins or using mouthwash. In fact - if it's Lichen Planus, mouthwash may well irritate it further.
But - mouth cancers, although pretty uncommon, DO exist, and like all of them, they are much better found and treated early. (Mouth cancers found early have a 95% survival rate)
So - I don't want to scare the bejesus out of you, this problems will in most likelyhood have a perfectly easy fix. But if it is an ulcer, recurring in the same place every time. Then get to a dentist and get it looked at.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Corsodyl mouthwash usually helps - they also do toothpaste. I used to get mouth ulcers recurring through stress but not so bad these days.0

My mother had the same problem. She went along to her dentist who referred her to a hospital consultant. Long story short - it was anaemia. The cause was investigated, and following treatment, the problem in the mouth resolved.
Without a shadow of a doubt, please consult a professional to determine what the problem actually is.0 -
Anbesol and rinsing the mouth out with salty water are the only things which ever work for me.
I used to be Starrystarrynight on MSE, before a log in technical glitch!0 -
I used to get terrible ulcers and I think a lot of it was due to being fun down. Not sure whether this applies to you?
Last year took a real hold of my life and adopted more healthy habits which so far seem to be working.0
