O/S Daily Monday 5th February 2018

This is an !!!8220;over the garden fence!!!8221; type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It!!!8217;s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we!!!8217;re going to do today or what we!!!8217;ve achieved already. Everyone!!!8217;s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn!!!8217;t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don!!!8217;t post large pictures, or clip art !!!8211; links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don!!!8217;t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, dry but cold.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Lunch yesterday wasn't how we planned, DH and I were going out to an event, but his work colleagues have got the lurgy and cough which they have now passed on to him, although he's got an awful cough, he's not as bad as he was before xmas and this is a different bug, more just a cold with a cough. So we didn't go out as planned, lunch was the sausage , mash and veg in a giant toad in the hole for the boys, DH and I had roast potatoes, chicken and stuffing, carrots, peas, and gravy, I had roast pots, chicken and stuffing, carrots, peas, kale, green beans and gravy, HM xmas pud with custard/rum sauce for those that wanted some. Tonight we'll be having gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato and peas.

Back to work today, hoping it's busy - it just makes the day fly by if so.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone

    Thanks for the thread nmlc.

Gosh it's cold this morning and we have snow. I set the heating to come on at 6.00am this morning but left it on low all night by mistake. I'm glad I did now! I won't be when I get the bill though.

I cooked a roast yesterday and really enjoyed that. Today I'm going to make Italian liver for dinner. I found some liver when I was rooting around in the freezer for a chicken breast yesterday that I didn't know I had. I think my list of freezer contents is a bit out of date. If I can brave the cold later I may go through the freezer in the shed and update the list.

I need to vacuum through and dust the sitting and bedroom other than that nothing else really needs doing today. The rest can wait until later in the week.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

    Morning All

Chilly this morning, put the washing rack by the fire last night and all that is now dry and folded. I put the bedding out for a while yesterday, not completely dry but not far off.

Had a lovely lunch with DD and BF, I made a pasta dish, I have enough left for a couple of dinners and they took a big tub full home, should keep them going for lunches before they go away.

Not much else to report, off for a swim then work. Have a good day, take care. XX

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Thank you nmlc for starting us off this morning x

I've just seen Steve off to work, he has his doctor ringing him at lunchtime to confirm whether or not he has diabetes so he is a bit nervous. Also, his boss is being a bit of a plonker and causing unnecessary stress to everyone on Steve's team so all in all he wasn't looking forward to going into work today. The weekend just flew by so quickly as well with the grandchildren staying.

Becky has school again today, hopefully she will make it in even if I have to get her in a taxi again to get there. While she is out I am planning to clean the living room and dining room as there is an awful lot of stuff in both rooms that doesn't belong there.

Not sure what to do for tea, I quite fancy a jacket potato and maybe a chilli but I don't have any kidney beans. Hmmm, maybe I will have a rethink. The freezers are both bursting with food so I don't think we will starve somehow.

I can hear movement so I am guessing Phoebe and Lilly are getting ready for school.
I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning all, thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
I slept better last night, though had to get up for a wee at 3. It took what seemed ages to get back to sleep but probably was not that long.
The whole of downstairs smells of roast dinner, I've lit a couple of candles as it is not warm enough for opening all the windows though I do have just one open. I cook it the windows open but some meals do linger.
I have leftover veg so bubble and squeak with sausages and yet more green veg tonight. I put too many potatoes to roast round the pork yesterday so dished up, made sure son got a very generous portion or humungous if I'm honest. He discovered the extra potatoes in a dish and had to be told that his definition of 'extra treat potatoes' was incorrect. By that time, he'd made inroads so not quite the same bubble and squeak that I'd planned.
I have Things To Do today but they are not interesting so will spare you the boringNess.
Hope everyone has a good day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning Nmlc and all.

Awake bright and early this morning. Didnt hear Grump leave for work at 4.30 though. I went dowstairs to make a drink to find a handwritten note waiting for me where his flask was. :) He hasnt done that for a long, long time.

Youngest left the house not long ago and he made up for the noise his Dad didnt make.:(

Diva day today...hope shes in a good mood. Its hard work when she isnt. She was a nightmare last week.

Need to throw the vacuum round before she gets here.

Ive been stressed over the last week or two and its resulted in me not being careful with my diet and ive put on some weight....even a few lbs feels like a few stone when your lacking in the height department...must give myself a kick up the bum.

Holly not more snow! Winter this year seems to be dragging on and on. Be careful when you go out.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

Thanks Nmlc, and morning all. Bitterly cold out there, the top of the car is white - don't know if it's a frozen snow shower, or frost.

Nothing much to report here, Yesterday i spent a few hours sewing, and changed the bed. I got the bedding washed, and thought i would get it outside for a bit, but changed my mind , it kept hailstoning.
I draped the washing in its usual places, mainly dry now.

We weren't out at all yesterday.

Today I've got book group, we meet in the library just a short walk away for me, doc's appt and one or two things to buy.

That's it . Don't know how I stand the excitement.

Hope everyone has a good day. Dumpling, hope Becky gets through her day ok, and thoughts to everyone who's poorly.

No snow here :( but its bitterly cold !! the cars have a thick covering of frost on them this morning.

Last night for dinner we had burger and chips, some really nice burgers from aldi, tonight we will have cottage pie I think which will be warming.

House is quite tidy still so will just have a quick weep through tonight and maybe put a wash on.

Right I had better get on and get ready for work, have good days all xx
  • Morning folks and thanks for starting NMLC. A cold, crisp day forecast for us with highs of 1 deg!!! No snow for us but it's forecast hereabouts tomorrow. We have had numerous snow showers over the w/e but fortunately it didn't settle.

Our new wm was delivered promptly in the allotted time slot at around 11.45. After lunch we unpacked it and then DS came to assist with installing it and getting it up and running. Not tried it out yet but as soon as Mr TA vacates the bed I shall give it a go with the bedding.

I think we may have a tip run today with all the packing. Loads of polystyrene to get rid of and we have more stuff that has been getting stored in the garage for disposal. The tip is quite near Home Bargains so I may just have a wander in there as not been in for ages.

I got my roots done yesterday so skunk look no more! I have decided I am going to "forgive" my hairdresser after all when I can get an appointment. It's easier than starting afresh trying to explain to someone new how you want it.

No leftovers to eat up today so a freezer rummage will be needed shortly. I'll get the usual soup and wraps out for lunch and see what appeals for dinner tonight.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, carers, sad, worried and lonely. Take care, especially if you have snow, wrap up warm. xx

Morning everyone. No frost today though it’s all,wet outside.

I’m off to work shortly. The house is tidy cos the cleaner is coming this morning, I’ve hardly been home since she was here last.

Some friends called round briefly yesterday as I was knee deep in bits of paper and cables for my mini label printer which I’d just installed on my laptop. I’d donated my old mini tablet to the young son so he was wielding it around happily.

There’s macaroni cheese for later, I love it all crispy on top.

I hope everyone is doing well or getting better. Happy Monday.

Thanks for the thread nmlc, hugs to all those in need.

Chilly here this morning, the jetty and boats are white with frost.

I've topped up the fire so it will soon warm up..

I have to drop CHS at work at 12, then collect a prescription, buy a new shower rail as ours fell off yesterday. Then I shall visit DD1 and take my bedding over for her to wash. DD2 washed my big towels this week.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
