Applied for housing benefit, in joint tenancy agreement with a friend, In a 2 bed house, each with our own room, share the rest if the facilities.

I recieve ESA - support group

PIP - daily living component

And a disability premium

Council wants letter from landlord saying how much i am liable fir the rent, its a joint tenancy so its decided between the tenants nit the landlord.

Im exempt from the shared accomodation rate, and should recieve the 1 bedroom rate, due to the benefits i recueve.

How can i prove how much of the rent im liable for, can a written signed contract between tenants suffice, stating we have agreed rent is split between us equally, Along with a letter from the landlord saying im jointly liable for the rent too.

The joint tenancy agreement was not enough evidence of this, its now getting very stressful, i have several mental health issues abd my anxiety is really bad, maybe an advicacy group or backing from CAB will help my cause?

My housemate is working full time, im unable to wirk at this monent in time, its creating tension as my money isnt covering all of the rent, and relying on my housemate.

    This was talked about yesterday.
the council see it as well you could have an agreement where your housemate pays rent and you pay bills etc so they want to make sure they are paying your rent at the right amount especially if they are paying it directly to you.
You see it as it is a joint tenancy so we split everything 50/50
Landlord sees it yes it is a joint tenancy which means you are jointly responsible to cover the rent so if 1 of you stops paying they will chase the other one, so landlords are struggling to put it in writing that you are only liable for half the rent. However if you ask them can you write a letter stating you have agreed to to pay x amount then they may be more likely to say that especially if it is direct debit as that is trackable.
