Time period of opening and closing First Direct?

  • Is FD your 'main' account?...eg it receives your income and pays your bills. Or is it just an account you switched into purely for the £125 incentive?

No, Nationwide is my main one. First Direct just for the bonus - although the great customer service does make me slightly question if I want to close it.

Then assuming you haven't been paying in £1K per month there's no point opening another FD account to switch. You wouldn't qualify for the £100 leaving present so may as well switch the one you've got. Unless at some point down the line you want the regular saver?

On the customer service, what exactly has impressed you? I mean, you've (presumably) opened an account online, initiated a switch (maybe via phone?), and pocketed £125. You shouldn't have had to talk to them more than once?

Just to confirm - unless the T&C state otherwise (and I have never seen any that do) - you can switch any current account as soon as you like after opening.
