Looking for an electrician to put up a new light fitting (pendant?) Nothing fancy just a basic one.
Have been quoted £90. Seems a tad expensive, what price would be reasonable?
Cheers

Whats there at the moment?0

Who is supplying the
pendant ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
It doesn't seem bad to me. We paid £70 for two light fittings (supplied by us) but the electrician was already here doing much bigger works. If he was coming out just to do the lights, I'd have expected to pay more.0

We had the ceiling done and the old pendant is damaged now so it needs replacing, it's still there. We are supplying the pendant. I'm right in calling it a pendant aren't I? The fitting that hangs from the ceiling that you attach the bulb to and the shade!?0

A pendant is a ceiling rose complete with a short wire and lamp holder. A ceiling rose is screwed directly to the ceiling. The part that holds the bulb and shade is the lamp holder. The lamp holder is very easy to replace.

You could do it yourself? Save yourself £90. I just replaced two myself.Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. - Albert Einstein0

Considering pendants are only a few pounds at most, an will likely take the electrician about 10 mins if its a straight forward job, id say £30-40 max0

I'm no electrician and I've done about 10 myself since we moved house. Super easy DIY job. 15 mins or so.0

I've got a broken lamp holder ( the part where the light bulb clicks into the fitting ) and after a bit of googling I found a post on builder depot website
Post subject: Re: Broken bayonet fitting
Top bit unscrews and is slid over the dangling cable, attach the 2 wires to the bottom bit using a screwdriver and screw the top bit back on...Lecky off obviously..
There is also a link on where you can get the part for peanuts too. Just remember to turn off electricity at the mains first!0
