I considered that but it makes no effort to limit it to outside alcohol. In addition, it doesn't mention non-alcoholic beverages and I don't really see how they could claim someone bringing alcohol in from outside would spoil your enjoyment/viewing but someone buying drink at their bar would not.You keep using that word. It’s been happening at international cricket matches for ages. I think they’ve pretty much given up on claims about bringing in alcohol causes more problems. It is, obviously, a way to get you to buy their alcohol (goes without saying, really).0 -

All I'm saying is that they'd be perfectly entitled to have a clause stating no outside food/drink - but they don't. Instead they claim alcoholic beverages ruin enjoyment of others so aren't allowed in the arena.
I'd be interested in their answer as to why - if alcoholic beverages ruin others enjoyment - are they selling them willy nilly for consumption inside the arena.
An event near me doesnt allow alcoholic beverages outside the bar - because their licensed premises is the bar area only and can only sell alcohol for consumption on their premises. Its not as big as the manchester arena, but just wondering if something similar should apply here. You keep using that word. Ask them?

I think they’ll struggle with an answer. The booze ban at cricket was introduced because people were getting very drunk. At the time large amounts of alcohol was being taken into the grounds (I can recall how much we had at The Oval on my 40th birthday!) and that was seen as the reason.
But, the venues continued to sell drink - at The Oval the bars close at certain times but all that happens is people drink quicker. And they have mobile sellers too. And folks have already had a few before they go in. As I said cricket seems to have pretty much given up on saying that it’s to stop people getting drunk. Edgbaston now says that it’s for your ‘safety and comfort”
We go to the O2 and there are the same issues Loads of bars/restaurants outside the venue so concert goers just fill up there. The last time we were there (for Rod Stewart) the four guys next to us weren’t interested in the gig and spent most of the time going in and out to get to the bar.
If venues had any real interest in an attempt at quelling overdrinking they’d not open their bars at all - but that’s where they make a lot of money!
Bye the bye - we saw The Eagles at the O2 and they were superb.0 -
Its a pity Manchester Arena don't follow the same policy. I saw Ed Sheeran there a while ago and a woman was carried out by the staff as she was almost comatose and half undressed.
Probably sobered up the following day and realised she had missed the show and wasted her money.0 -

People were very well-behaved at all 3 concerts, apart from the !!!!!!!!s in the floor seats who tried to take photos - and that was dealt with very quickly and unobtrusively.
I've been a fan since they used to appear on OGWT as backing group to Linda Ronstadt.
I can see unholyangel's point about what it says on the arena website about drinks.0 -
Off topic I know, but I saw them twice at MEN Arena and once in Leeds.

Yes. Everyone was well behaved when we saw them. We got bumped to a box with its own bar. They are my favourite band and that made my night. We nipped up quick and got the front seats.
I can see unholyangels point too. But, I guess, the only way to find out is to ask them. As I have indicated the alcohol spoils enjoyment line seems a bit old hat these days
I have much more sympathy for the safety argument. We used to take in glass bottles and cans - and, these days, who knows what liquids could be taken in. And there is the whole bottle top issue.
I know people who have got booze through security, though.0 -

Nah sadly they don't care. It's like the lot that go to racing and just spend all day propping up the bar. They could be anywhere in the world but spent a fortune to prop up the bar:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

When I saw the title I thought it was about pills and booze... Last big gig I went to was Blur in Hyde Park where nitrous oxide seemed to be the intoxicant of choice - there were dealers quite openly wandering about with canisters in rucksacks. Between that and the e-bong brigade at least a third of the crowd must have been off their face before the headliners arrived.I need to think of something new here...0
