Blackberry 9800 wont connect to internet

Options
I found an old Blackberry at the back of a drawer. I've charged it and inserted a sim and all looks good except it wont connect to internet either over Wi-Fi or sim.

Phone reports its connected to my Wi-Fi (also shows as connected on computer), but phone reports unable to connect to the internet if I try to load any page. Phone previously connected ok.

I suspect a setting is incorrect, any ideas?

I've updated application files through blackberry desktop but issue persists.

You probably need to have BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) added by your phone provider.
  • Well you can try changing the hotspot through the settings but you do need a BB data plan. Yeah . . .

Forgetting the sim for the moment (the sim allows internet connection on other phones), I'm sitting next to my wireless router which informs the phone is connected and the phone informs its connected to the router, if I try and load google the phone tells me its not connected to the internet.

This all worked when I used to use this handset.

do you need to go through your isp splash screen before you can connect for the first time in a while? that should load automatically though if needed

Blackberry used to handle data differently to other handsets, as mentioned above the sim needed either BIS for personal use or BES for enterprise use before it could use data.

It seems if you've used the phone with BIS before and now you're not, you need to change a setting in the browser - there's a ffew suggestions here:
