Economy 7 Boiler

So here is the thing, I have changed to Bulb an energy supplier that was offering a good deal and all that, i checked when their economy 7 Tariff runs from and they have said 12:15 - 07:15, but my problem is below:
  1. I dont have a timer setting or anything
  2. I have an economy 7 switch next to the boiler that i leave on in the winter, it is meant to come on when economy 7 does.
  3. The wall heaters are on economy 7 also but they have a switch with a light on it, so i know when economy 7 comes on.
  4. The fuse box has a separate 'off peak' section with the boiler and 2 wall heaters on it
  5. Again, there is no timer on this.
  6. The question...
  7. Why do my lights come on at 10.30pm and not when the supplier said it would?
  8. Could it be that there is a timer and i just don't know where it is?I have a small flat and have searched everywhere including where the meter is on the ground floor, standard Night and Day separate timers, nothing special

I am not sure what i am missing but i have kept an eye on it and the actual lights on the heaters come on at 10.30pm - 12.30am and go off then come back on again at 5.30 am - 8.30am, certainly not what 'Bulb' have told me, meaning about 5 hours each night. When the lights on the heaters come on, i assume that my boiler is heating the hot water also.

Help?

Karl

You should have a timer or switching unit next to the meter, unless the meter is fairly new in which case the timing system may be incorporated into the meter.

Timeclocks can go out of sync with real time, so the actual times can vary from the standard times.

But it sounds like you have some kind of split hours arrangement rather than standard Economy 7, or else possibly your timeswitch has gone completely haywire.

Can you post a picture of any timeswitch near to your meter?

  • I cant seem to attach pictures, not sure why, but i have used a free website for display:

    1) https://prnt.sc/i9p5y5 This one is the fuse box with the three off peaker switches on the right

    2) https://prnt.sc/i9p6wv This is the meter with a swicth box above it

    3) https://prnt.sc/i9p78o The swicth box on its own.

I cant see anything in here at all related to a timer.

    Cheers.

Your E7 switching is controlled remotely by radio signal.

    RADIO TELESWITCH

  • The time switch controls your Economy 7 hours and this won't have changed when you switched to Bulb.

Your Economy 7 times will be the same as with your previous supplier. The only way they'll change is if Bulb arrange for your meter to be changed.
  • I should add that if you have a new meter fitted then it's highly likely the teleswitch will be removed and the new meter will have an inbuilt time switch. This will no longer be controlled by radio signals.
