My phone says 'Android security patch level 5 Sept 2017', so I connected to wi-fi and went to System update but after checking, it just said 'no updates' (under EMUI 5.0.1).How do I get the security updates?
Wait for Samsung to release a newer one.

I now need to change the APN setting to use a FreedomPop SIM. This was easy on my last phone (Gingerbread) but I've now spent half a hour researching and going on other forums, where I'm advised it's on 'Settings -> SIM & Network settings -> SIM Setting -> Access Point names' or it's under 'Wireless and Networks'. My OS is Android 7.0 but neither of these headings is listed. I can find WPS under 'advanced wi-fi settings' or my MAC and IP a/d, but nothing about APN.

This looks vaguely correct. On Android O it is Settings-> Network and Internet->Mobile Network->Access Point Names.

This is wrong. WPS is nothing to do with APNs. WPS is about connecting to Wi-Fi networks.

I didn't have anti-virus on Gingerbread, but I expect I'll need it now.

    Why ? .........

it just said 'no updates' (under EMUI 5.0.1).

And there was me thinking EMUI was a Huawei thing ... Samsung use the same term? (Manufacturer assumed since post #6 says Galaxy Note).

On my Huawei P9 Lite running Nougat 7.0 and EMUI 5.0.1 ...the APNs can be found near the top of Settings under More > Mobile network > Access Point Name. Press the 3 dots to add a New APN.

I want a browser that saves me data, so is Opera Mini still the way to go?
I've used Adblock Browser for a while now without problems.

It saves data in that it stops ads from downloading.
