Just came across this so you have been warned!
PHONING AT THE WHEEL? HANDS FREE mobile-phone use is banned in France. The new rule applies to all hands-free phones using a headset, bluetooth or wired. Drivers caught using a mobile phone while on the road in France are liable to an on-the-spot fine of 135 Euros !!!8211; and 3 penalty points if they have a French driving licence. And from 2018 on immediate suspension of their licence (regardless of nationality). Statistics show that phoning at the wheel increases the risk of accident by a factor of three. The only type of mobile phone now legal to use in France while driving is one that is entirely hands-free and headphone free.
Plus a new 80kph speed limit on all roads without a central barrier starts in July 2018.

Not quite true. You are allowed to use the the car's built in bluetooth system. You're just not allowed to use any type of headset/earpiece.0 -
According to this

you are not allowed to use any system where you have to touch the phone.0 -

which is entirely in agreement with post #3 and disagrees with post #1 and the erroneous thread title. OP it would be useful and accurate if you could correct the title. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0
