Kia Rio Strange Problem

Hi,

I have a 62 plate 1.1 CRDi and it has been fine until yesterday when it cut out after starting, I had just driven it to the supermarket without any problem but after returning to the car it cut out.

I restarted it, no problem this time but the Auto Start Stop light was on, which I thought was odd.

Drove to the petrol station about 100 yards away and filled up with diesel.

Then when I restarted it, it had a loud ticking noise, similar to a pinking sound if you know what I mean.

Seemed underpowered but drove off OK and then I had to stop at a traffic light about 100 yards away.

After stopping the car wouldn't respond to throttle AT ALL - I tried to pull away but revs stayed around 1k mark regardless of me pushing the accellerator, even flooring it had no effect.

I had to restart it again and like all computers it was fine after the reboot, drove home 10 miles no problems, no unusual noise, only issue is the auto start stop light was on the whole time.

Today it drove completely fine, just did a 15 mile journey, started fine, no lights at all.

I have the "Engie" diagnosis app and that isn't picking anything up. However, it won't tell me if the battery and alternator are OK, rather annoyingly, but it isn't reporting any issues either.

I have had the car a year, bought it second hand with 44k on the clock, I've put another 24k on it mainly motorwat miles. Car has been fine, just had its 60k service and also some brake pads, could this be related?

Alternator? Injector?

According to the service manual an injector was replaced around 16k, which is ridiculously early so I wonder if the injectors are a bit dodgy on mine.

Any suggestions welcome, I assume a dealer will charge me to diagnose this and as it seems fine now I am rather loathe to part with cash to be told all is well.

Thanks for any ideas.

It is a Kia with a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty that it is still within which is transferable to the next owner. Just take it to a main dealer if it does it again.
