Liverpool Victoria not counting NCD after 9yrs!

I have 12 years no claims discount and been loyal customer with LV for car insurance. I bought a new car and wanted to move as I got new quote elsewhere. But they refused to give me my 12 years no claims discount letter, as they only count upto 9 years no claims discount. but will send me last 3 years renewal quotes which repeats the 9 year no claim discount. I don't know whether the new provider will accept that.
Has anyone else faced this problem before?

Does it make any difference to your new insurer (ie have they quoted you based on 12 years NCD rather than just 9?)


If so explain to them that you assumed you would be getting a 12 year proof, and your previous insurer has 9 as the maximum. They will be used to this issue


And you can demonstrate your 12 years with the docs you now hold

It makes no difference. You have maximum NCD with LV and apart from Aviva who go up to 15 every other insurer is the same or less for maximum NCD.

In the event of an at fault claim you will lose 2 years NCD BUT drop to 3 yrs NCD . This indicates that insurers only consider 5 years as the point of max NCD.

It makes sense that the maximum number of years used for calculating NCD can only be the length of time that they are allowed to get information on what claims you have been involved in. you
