  • Glad the pooch is okay, and hope you get a docs appointment, also hope DS's appointment is productive :)
  • You should see a Dr about your leg, especially as it's so painful!

    Please make the appointment.

Glad the dog is ok. Mine's terrible for going through my bag. I've got to be so careful not to leave anything in there.

Hope you can get your leg checked xx

  • Savingholmes, I checked my state pension recently and apart from a six month period my first year at uni?! I am fully paid up. No idea why there was that gap back in 94/95, but nothing I can do about it now. Cb still paid to me so should be OK, although I do pay NI through self employment tax return, just not income tax.

I dug all our pension stuff out last night. From september I can pay into my new jobs pension and they will put a bit in (very small company) and I have around 6k with three other pensions. Husband is paying 4.5% matched into his company pension, but I was reading and he can be matched up to 8.5%, so I think from September I will get him to increase to 8.5% and put less into the bills account, I was going to try and save £250 into mine, but will drop it to £150 to cover the extra he is saving and see how we get on. Makes more sense for him to save more with it being matched.

Anyway I just want to say thank you for helping me pull my head out of the sand, even if I only understand pensions on a very basic level.

Hi Drawing a line - well done for checking. Great news on your state pension.

When you say £6K with three pensions - is that what they would pay annually or what's in the pot?

Definitely try and take the match for DH. Is it worth checking what his and your fees are - because depending on what investment strategy you pick - will determine a) the fees you pay - normally at least 0.5% p.a. sometimes more and b) the growth you get. If they have put you into a too risk averse portfolio - you may reduce your risk of loss but equally you damage your growth potential. It would be worth talking to the scheme pension provider.

    Glad it helped you.

I've got a doctor's appointment with my foot - I will post later and let you know how I get on.

    Thanks Oh....

Doctor has referred me for physio - so hopefully once what I get from work runs out - I should be able to get some via the NHS if needed. She has also suggested I try and get some discounted gym sessions - and has told me where to look for that... For various reasons - I have also been signed off sick for 2 weeks so hopefully that will give me chance to sort myself out and rest my foot. I am relieved. Just written a bit of a handover and sent some emails so I can leave it without the world caving in... I also need to pick up some stronger pain relief meds - I have a prescription for that too. I will nip out once I've eaten a late lunch.

It's funny. A few posts ago I suggested you take some time out but you said you were unable to. Sorry your foot is an issue but at least you now get some time out. Our bodies will force us into downtime if necessary.

I hope the foot pain lessens.

I'm glad you have been to the Dr and got help, think your Dr has done the right thing with signing you off for two weeks. Please use the time to rest and not be superwoman!

  • Glad you will have some time to recover.

6k is the total not what it would pay!!!

Trouble I have is that the husband couldn't care less about pensions. Only reason he is paying 4.5% is because it increased automatically and he would have had to actually sort paying less himself. Honestly he is a nightmare. Anyway I told him tonight what I was planning and when he was trying to brush me off I told him I would sort mine out and he could live off the state one on his own lol! So he has agreed that we will pay more into his from sep/oct. Sometimes he is a complete idiot. Especially as he would be able to understand it all better than me. I have no concerns re his work Pension, he works for a very good company.
