  • I had a DD set up with another ac at Newday and hads been paying the min myself BEFORE the payment date and I got a letter saing my DD had been cancelled.
It had never happened to me before and when I rang to ask why Newday told me that because I had paid before the payment date for more than 12 Months my DD had not been used so had been cancelled!!
  • I received email saying that statement was ready and gave address of link - it didn't work. I tried a lot as I had easily before with no success. I couldn't access another card I have with Newday. I rand Newday and they were not b able to help asking me to type a web addr which was getting ERROR 404 and similar attempts all led to the same error. It looks like Newday are changing servers but their customer service do not know.

It's standard practice for banks to cancel direct debits that haven't been used for thirteen months after set up. That may work out as around twelve statement periods.

    https://www.directdebit.co.uk/DirectDebitExplained/FAQs/pages/inactivedirectdebits.aspx:
What happens when a Direct Debit is inactive?

This is covered by the dormancy period rule. All banks hold details of Direct Debit Instructions on file for a minimum period of 13 months from lodgement of the Direct Debit Instruction, in the event of no collections, or from the date of the last payment. After the dormancy period has passed, the bank will remove details of the Instruction from their system. Before claiming further Direct Debit payments the organisation must obtain a new Direct Debit Instruction or your authority to continue collecting. If this is not done your Direct Debit payment may be returned by your bank.

New Day did you a favour by letting you know your direct debit instruction had been cancelled. Many organisations don't.
