Solarplicity - advice needed on cancelling switch

Hi on Tuesday 31st Jan I went onto moneysupermarket and saw a really good deal with Solarplicity. So I set up to switch to them. The next day a friend was telling me of their bad customer service reviews, so I decided to cancel the switch and have said to my current energy supplier I want to fix with them for another year.

When I phoned Solarplicity they said this would be cancelled however on Thursday 1st Feb I got an email for a direct debit instruction and a welcome pack. I cancelled the direct debit with my bank and sent an email to Solarplicity that I wanted the switch and corresponding direct debit cancelled with immediate effect. (Written proof that this is my wish within the 14 day cooling off period)

I have not yet had an email from Solarplicity to confirm this has been done. Is there anything else I can do to stop the switch from happening. My current energy supplier knows about the situation.

Any advice would be really appreciated

  • I'm going through the same thing. I have rang twice to cancel, the first time they said because it's only been a few days going live , they wasn't able to cancel and that I should call back in a few days . Yet my 14 days cooling off period is running down. Today I call again after being on hold for over half an hour, the dude on the phone said that the gas won't be going ahead as there's a issue. But the electricity side is still active but he said he couldn't cancel it, even though I'm always a week into my 14 days .

I have sent several emails and fb messages and nothing.

How did you get on in the end?

Send a letter by Recorded Mail and get Proof of Posting. Standard Licence Conditions require suppliers to cancel a transfer even if the cancellation is received after the 14 day cooling off period PROVIDED it was sent during the cooling off period.

I don't understand why people don't look at reviews before signng up with companies. If you search this company you will see that there are some of the strongest complaints ever against this energy company, in fact, several reviewers are attempting to take legal action. (uk.trustpilot) In addition to awful customer service and failing to meet their agreements there are complaints on the employee sites of shady treatment of their staff. I am in the process of trying to have them removed from the lists of Moneysaving expert and Which
