Hope this is in the right forum people...
We're buying 2 new sofas from DFS and they offered us a 5 year leather care type cover for about £300 for both sofas, is it worth taking out? Have any of you used it to claim?
Or is it an expense we probably wont need?

Thanks Firefox, have just done a google search and its a definate NO for this cover, every saying its a rip-off!
Thanks for replying0 -
I just bought a similar cover for a new suite from a small shop.
he sells it on for little profit and charged £15 per seat. so £75 for 5 years. he did say the big shops charge through the nose for similar cover, it was me that asked him about it not him trying to sell it to me.
Won't know unless I have to claim how good or bad it is but my son had something similar from Furniture Village years ago and they came straight out when he had a claim.0 -
.. and have they sold you easyglides at about £70. These are silicon/teflon stick on pads that are about 25mm in diameter. You can find similar on amazon for less than £20.0

OP I hope you have you checked the quality of the leather you are buying?
Best indication is the price. A quality three seat leather sofa will be at least £1500.0 -
Hi Daveyjp
They are apparently on the sale at the moment (I know there is always a sale on in DFS), and the 3 seater is £1000 (down from I think £2k)

I think DFS like other retailers use two ranges of goods so that they can have one range on sale for 50% off for about two months, then put the price back up and discount the other range. As a shopper you just have to work out that the upper price does not represent value for money.0

Even if you hadn't already answered the question for yourself, just think 'Why are they selling this?' Is it to make a profit (i.e. the retailer) - which I am paying for, is the salesperson going to get a commission which I am paying for? Is it value for money or are there cheaper warranties I can buy on the net?0
