Qualification for 30 hours childcare and tax free

My understanding that to qualify for 30 hours free childcare and also for tax free childcare scheme for self employed it is being looked at the last 3 months earnings.
Does anyone knows how is it looked at if the last three months earnings are maternity allowance? Would it still count?

It says this on every option
“If you, or your partner, are on maternity, paternity or adoption leave, or you're unable to work because you are disabled or have caring responsibilities, you could still be eligible.”0 -

I did see this. However I am not sure:
A) If being off from self employment is classed as a maternity leave as maternity leave is a term typically used to describe the paid holiday for EMPLOYED mother when the child is born.
It is saying 'could' which means may or may not. I obviously need to know for sure. 0 -
