Mint Direct Debit Scam

I've read the posts with interest. People here are trying to help. You've done nothing but be patronising, sarcastic and nasty.
This is a lovely online community for people who are trying to help each other out. If you don't want to join in with that then perhaps it would be best for you to stay away.
What a cracking first post! Wow, the girl has cojones!
You'll have fun here, I can tell. 0 -
Agree with rugbymum and others, I work in a bank. We've got total authority to refund charges with no limit where it's our error, and can refund one charge per year on a discretionary basis. However any discretionary refund has to be justified as in the business interest, and has 4 pages of forms for us to fill in with it. As a general rule, if you're nice, admit you made a mistake, but you're friendly and apologetic they you'll get your refund. If you get worked up and rant about how it's the company's fault when it isn't then no refund for you.
Incidentally, by taking the DD as agreed Mint were correctly following the DD code, which says they will give advance written notice of any payments to be taken. If they gave you the written notice (on the statement) but then didn't take the payment, they would be breaching the rules.0 -
Given that lenders differ in this respect - as with everything else - it would help if others followed the Co-op's example and included a brief summary of their DD policy on monthly statements.
Three more that state their policy explicitly on the statement...
Citi: "your minimum payment of (amount), less any payments credited to your account up to 4 working days before the payment due date, will be collected from your bank account by direct debit on or immediately after the payment due date shown on your statement."
Lloyds TSB: "D/D PAYMENTS TO BE TAKEN FROM YOUR BANK ON (DATE). MANUAL PAYMENTS RECEIVED 4 CLEAR WORKING DAYS BEFORE THE PAYMENT DUE DATE, WILL REDUCE OR STOP THE D/D FROM YOUR ACCOUNT FOR THAT MONTH."
Morgan Stanley: "Your payment of (amount) will be collected by Direct Debit on (date). Any refunds about to be added to your account may reduce the amount we collect."0
