Also, maybe it's possible that you could meet the person before the hearing date? This way at least you would have seen them. I know exactly how difficult it is when you're not good with strangers, my daughter is exactly the same way.
I'm sorry to hear about your father too. Please accept my condolences.0 -
I was going to say the same as Poppy, with over a month to go could you have a couple of meetings with the person they found to help you?
With all the paperwork you have to work through, can you break it down into chunks and do one little bit every other day? Perhaps giving yourself a reward for every bit you do.
I really hope it goes well, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
In shock, had tribunal Friday 31st. Received a letter saying I have been awarded14 points care, 14 points mobility and so awarded enhanced care and enhanced mobility.
Thought I might possibly get enhanced care, but not mobility.
Til November 2022 so three years hopefully until another face to face (as can be done up to year before).
I realise it can take some time for the backdated money to come through.
I receive full HLA.., but don't receive carers allowance. Can I ask for SDP (I receive income support only, haven't asked for ESA as couldn't stand going through this assessment process for ESA as well as PIP)?
Deary me, I wish I had some flags I could hang outside the window.
So to others going through the same process.., PERSIST. I was told so many times I didn't have a chance in hell, as you will see the FACE to FACE was awful, had to rewrite my MR because the person who helped me seemed to give up on looking at me.., but somehow writing how things were did ok. I did a lot of research, had a panic attack at the start of the tribunal left questions at the end unanswered because I couldn't think but survived lolol.0 -

Congratulations, very happy for you.I know how stressful it has been for you (been to a couple of tribunals in the past - and won!) and the stress and worry you have experienced through the whole lengthy process!
I understand the disbelief and all the emotions you are feeling from receiving the decision letter. You will I'm sure be feeling a massive relief. After my PIP face to face assessment (which took place at my home 3 days after I buried my father) I really didn't know what to expect. It was a huge relief when I was awarded it.
If you qualify for ESA, which it sounds like you do, you should apply - you have nothing to lose. I know it is another face to face assessment, but it is something you have to go through.0 -
Its the thought of being without money if you fail a face to face which as we all know, commonly happens. I couldn't do jobseekers allowance and job searches.
My sympathies about your father. Has happened to me too.0 -

Thank you deannatrois, my sympathies to you too. The only reason I mentioned my loss was because you went through the same. At that time you have no idea of how your assessment has gone as you are grieving, and you are unable to think straight anyway.
Yes, you are correct, when you are unable to work and have no prospect of doing so in future, the pressure and anxiety is immense.0 -

Great news! As for the SDP, if you live alone, or classed as living alone then yes. If you're not classed as living alone then all those that live with you must also be claiming a qualifying benefit like DLA mid/high rate care or PIP daily living. I can't remember who you live with...too many names to remember for those who regularly post.
Backdated payments for Tribunal wins can take 6-8 weeks.0 -
I know, its got to be done but I had to borrow money to buy dog food today and my older son starts uni in September, two weeks before his loan is paid and I won't be able to help. But will work out in the long run. Just gotta manage for a little bit longer.
My older son did live with me until Xmas, but he gets DLA and I was his carer until he went to university (he is 22). He didn't care for me at all. Now I am down as my younger son's carer.0 -

Then you'll be entitled to claim SDP and it should be backdated to the date your PIP award started. It's £64.30 extra per week. You'll have to wait until you hear from DWP and then claim it. It can be claimed over the phone by ringing Income Support and either ask to fill out the IS10 form over the phone, if they won't do it over the phone then ask them to send you the form out. Don't panic, it's very simple form with just a few simple questions. Should only take a few weeks.0 -
Another thing, if your area is a full Universal Credit area then you won't be able to claim ESA, it will be UC. If this is the case you'll most definitely be better off staying on Income Support. Check your area here.
