Landline not working since BT switchover

On Weds 31st Jan we switched TV, BB and LL from Sky to BT. The broadband is working fine and we haven't yet set up the TV box (Sky is still working for now). However, the landline has not worked at all since the switchover. We can't make or receive calls. There's no dial tone. It was working fine with Sky.

I've tried the test line (by unscrewing the lower plate) but that makes no difference. I've checked the phone itself (power, cables, batteries) and they all seem OK.

Speaking to BT they have set up an engineer visit for tomorrow morning (Sat 3rd Feb) but I really don't want to get fleeced for £130. Is there anything else I can do to fix it?

Since you seem to have done all the necessary tests to establish that it's an external fault, upstream of the master socket, then you shouldn't be charged anything by OR. Just make sure you have tea and biscuits ready...
Have you tried another handset on the line, or tested yours on another known working line? I keep an old corded phone just for this purpose.
It's not unusual to lose data or voice with the other service still working.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
