Hi,
I have purchased an approved used BMW X1 (14 reg) from the dealer, end July 2017
I purchased BMW approved screen wash from same location on 20th January 2018 after getting warning indication for empty screen wash, after one week of topping up the screen wash my front screen wash stopped working – this is in about 6 months of purchase
I booked a service on 31st Jan and took my car to the dealer where they gave me an estimate of £192.40 for cleaning a clogged up screen wash filter as this is not covered under warranty, therefore I would like to know
1. Is it correct for BMW to consider it acceptable and normal for an approved used car to develop such fault within 6 months of purchase?
2. Should BMW consider it outside of warranty?
3. Should BMW consider it acceptable to sell approved used cars that may develop such faults within 6 months of sale and use and following manufactures instruction in using approved parts?

You may also want to consider not paying main dealer prices for work on a four year old car in future0 -
A clogged washer is not a fault, it is a maintenance issue, just like a clogged filter in a washing machine or clogged hose in a vacuum cleaner. So the answer to all of your questions is yes0

It may have had asda screen wash in previously, that clogged mine up. it was like glue in the bottom of the washer bottle.0

A lot of the BMW's I follow have malfunctioning indicators - maybe they need to check their warranty?0

We had the same issue on a brand new BMW 5 series GT on the first year anniversary. I hadn't realised my OH had run out of the BMW screen wash and put some in from our local garage. The cost was quoted at nearly £250 to clean (and now it can't be done with a pin it's a complete degunge and flush out of the system and pipes) but we did negotiate it down to £130. Can you try to negotiate down the cost?0
