Hi! I dont know if this is in the right section or not sorry if not. I have an Index '£5 Spend & Save Voucher' which i received when i spent over £50 about 3-4 weeks ago (since the news was released about them closing). It was the day i went in store and they had the jewellery all reduced to half price. Anyway, the vouchers t&c states can be used between 27/04/05 and 22/06/05 along with other conditions which were all met. I tried to use it today on a purchase of £23.99 and when i handed over the voucher the women on the till said she would have to call the manager as she only started 2 weeks ago and wasnt sure how to do it. When the manager came over she said where did i get the voucher as she hadnt seen them before (yes it was the store manager i was speaking to!!) i explained that i got it from the store when spending over £50 and that it was since the closure news. She said she wouldnt be able to accept it as i couldnt use it on sale items (doesnt say that in terms and conditions, just her excuse for refusing it) so i asked her had they knowingly issused me a voucher then that i was not going to be able to use as all their items were in the sale! She said she didnt know if she would be able to accept as they had been taken over by someone else and any offers etc were now invalid. I reminded her of the sale leaflet which i took in (the withdrawn one) and got the items at the price in the leaflet due to advertsing rules etc. Anyway without confusing things too much i have phoned the 'contact us' phone number on the index site and spoke to a man who said he hadnt heard of the vouchers. I explained to him what happened in store and he said that it would be up to head office and there wasnt a phone number for them and i would have to write to them. He gave me a number to try tomorrow between 9-5 which i will.
I dont see why they should be allowed to get away with messing people aout like this. Most would just accept what they say and leave it at that but why should we. I will ring the number tomorrow and see what they say but if i have top write off to head office, its more time and inconvenience. Does anyone know or have suggestions as to what i can do? Thanks. Or has anyone successfully used the vouchers. Just to remind you, you got a £5 one when spending £50 or more, a £10 one when spending £100 or more and a £15 one when spending £150 or more.

hmmm,
Only thing I can suggest for now is when you go to the store, take a pen and pad with you. Ask if they will accept it, if they say no, write on the pad, what they refused to accept it for, the name of the person who refused it, and sign/date it by yourself and ask the person doing the 'refusing' to sign it aswell. If they don't sign, write on the pad that they have refused to sign.
When/if you take it further this will be evidence.
I suspect that you might have a better claim if you buy the goods without the voucher anyway, and then claim for your loss of 5 pounds.
Hang on for better advice.0 -
Been in store today, after being told on the helpline that they should accept the vouchers and they took it no problems. When i asked the lady (a different manager to yesterday) if she knew about the vouchers she said she was going to ring me as they had a phone call to say they needed to honour the vouchers. So i got my £5 off and she explained that the day i got my voucher was the day they done the jewellery all half price but then becasue they got brought out by someone else they had to withdraw the voucher offer and also the sale leaflet offers. Due to people playing up (including myself) they had to sell at the sale brochure prices if you had one to show them otherwise it was false advertising. I aksed about closing and all they knew it was sometime in July.0

The same thing happened to me in Gagdet shop the other day, because they have gone into administration the company who issued the vocher no longer exists so it's invalid. I had an actual gift voucher that was paid for and so I had to complete a form and post it to the administration company to claim my money back.Sense is not common.0
