Cheese and wine evening / party MSE style

  • Don't forget the coleslaw !!
I'd go for the gammon joints. Delia does a good recipe - cooked in cider and mustard.
Slice it up ready for the party then freeze the leftovers straight away (or ask someone else if youre moving).
Think of all the meals you can do later - ham & eggs, ham and mushroom pie, pea & ham soup.....!!

Buy some red and green grapes, and alternate them on cocktail sticks. They are lovely. (I do cheese and grapes on sticks as I don't like pineapple!)
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

EEk Too much hard work ,a cheese board with a wide array of assorted cheese a basket full of crackers and a fruit bowl would do me ..
Warning tho..every wine and cheese part I have been too I have had very weird dreams that night:eek: ,think the chemical reaction of the cheese and the wine ( red in particular ) cause a strange 'high'

I know not really money saver but time timer, I'm sure superstore delis can make up cheese and ham selection trays for you.

Just out of interest apart from cheese what's your veggie option? I only say this cos alot of places will do additional side dishes like potato salad, green salad, coleshaw and a cold mixed veg rice dish.

By the sounds of it you want to go for a sort of traditional Ploughman's lunch

    a selection of breads - buns/loaf/baguettes
    a selection of cold meats - chicken/turkey/beef/ham
a selection of cheeses - brie, cheddar, silton or whatevers on offer
a selection of fruit/veg - apples, grapes, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, lettuce and celery
    a selection of chutneys/relishes
could add a selection of mini porkpies and sausages

    a really basic one http://www.slowfoodsomerset.org.uk/ploughmans.htm

I went last year to a friends summer party they did the theme for lunch then whoever was left during the evening had soup with grated cheese toast.

The party was great fun - but my concerns on the waste front were fully justified!

I don't know if my friends were not particularly hungry or just didn't like cheese - but I still have half of what I bought left and we have been eating it every day since the party! I can't freeze it because we are moving next weekend!

Can you do some sort of deal with a family member? You could try and wangle it so that if you give them some cheese/leftovers, could they give you something back for the first night in your new house?

  • Could you ask relatives or friends to keep leftovers in their freezers? Or invite nieghbours round (again?) to 'Leftover Party'?

I'm sure move will be wonderful..... .

My DH often has cheese before going to sleep for ''the trippy dreams''. I've even found him getting himself some cheese in the middle of the night because the dreams up until then haven't been ''interesting enough''.
