Help! No Gas Bill!

:money:

I have spoken to e-on about 15 times now and it's getting beyond a Joke.

I have moved into a new property and there was a mix up with which meter relates to which property. I have tried to get it fixed over and over again. This was 8 months ago. Im very worried about a high bill ONCE it gets fixed!!!! Is there a limit on how far back they can charge me as I have tried to get this sorted???

Any help or knowledge would be much appreciated.

Providing you have made every effort to get billed they can only bill for the past 12 months use.

I assume you have been taking regular meter readings, calculating how much you owe and putting it away for the day when the bill does arrive.

Have you opened a formal complaint ?

Hello mattCr and welcome to the Forums.

Sorry you've had to talk to us so many times. This sounds like what's known as a crossed meter. This is where the meter details become mixed up between different properties and bills are based on energy recorded on a meter at another property. They tend to happen mainly on new builds or after a meter exchange. They can take quite a time to sort out particularly with new builds where there might be quite a few properties involved.

We've specialist teams who look after crossed meters. These are our New Connections (Developer) teams and their contact details are on our website. They investigate what has been mixed up, sort it out and bill accounts using the right meter and readings. Sometimes, again especially with new builds, a visit is necessary to help move things forward.

I'd suggest talking to this team. Let them have as many details as possible including the meter serial numbers, opening and up to date readings plus all relevant dates. Photos would be great. They'll let you know where they are with the investigation and when you can expect a resolution.

On new builds, meters are installed on individual plots often a long time before the occupier moves in or a postal address is created. It's usually down to the builder/developer or their agents to let us have details of the meters at individual addresses. These details aren't always given to us as they should be and so become mixed up. Not saying this is the case with you mattCr but it's something that can happen.

The Billing Code molerat refers to applies where we've failed to bill accurately due to something we've done wrong. Where we're at fault, we won't charge for any unbilled energy used more than 12 months from the point the problem was fixed. Where it's not our fault, we'll send a bill but will be happy to look at setting up a payment plan to help spread the outstanding balance over a more manageable period.

Sorry again for the delay and hope this gives you an idea of what happens in this type of situation.
