Faulty Goods

Hi - going to keep it brief and hope someone can help me!
What did you buy? - Composite Front Door
When did you buy it? - 2013
Where from? (internet or in store - it DOES make a difference) - Ex-display item in store
How did you pay? (cash/cheque/debit card/credit card etc) - Cash; it was discounted as it was ex-display
What went wrong? - In recent months the door has started to split
What are the vendors telling you? - They're saying that the display item would have been provided to them free of charge by their supplier, for their showroom. Normally they have a lifetime guarantee, but this would not have come with a guarantee. They've also apologised and said that what has happened to our front door is rare, and shouldn't have happened.
What solution or remedy are you looking for? (Companies may Repair / Refund / Replace) - I'm looking for anything they'd consider giving me really in recompense, wondering if it would be worth contacting the manufacturer - whether I might have more luck with them?

Did they tell you about the lack of guarantee when you purchased it?0

Looks like you are going to need to commission an independent report regarding the fault on this ex-display product .
Bearing in mind that the vendor can make any settlement less the usage since 2013 .0 -
I don't think so, at least we've got no paperwork about it.0
