I am rather concerned that this didn't flag up as a scam immediately to the OP. I had hoped that by now this would be such an obvious scam that no one would hesitate for a moment. It just shows that we need to encourage threads like this as the more we talk about these scams the more people we will save from falling for them.

I was selling a pram on gumtree and got the email about paying by PayPal and the courier.
The next bit is the buyer claiming to have made the payment as well as sending the money for the courier as they are housebound and can't get to the bank to send it and tells you to do the bank transfer and check for the PayPal conformation. This says that the payment plus the money for the courier has been paid and is being held until the £300 is paid by bank transfer and provides the bank details for the "courier" this is a fake email and is trying to trick you in to just sending the guy money.
