  • Hi stoozie,
Did he use an ifa? How did he know how much to put in without exceeding the annual allowance?

Maybe consider an IFA with NHS pension provision specialism?

    Example

You can find expertise on how to understand your allowances on the pension forum.

Make sure you check your total rewards statement each year and save a copy. You can calculate how much of your annual allowance from that fairly easily - Google NHS annual allowance calculation - sorry can't post links for some reason today.

Do bear in mind the effect another pension may have on your lifetime allowance too.

Not just an iPad - I use a MacBook Air and have the same trouble.

Does this mean Apple's share price is about to nosedive?

Thanks. Glad to hear it’s not a problem at my end. And yes I’m using an iPad.

If you switch off Smart Punctuation that seems to fix it..just found that from another thread in here.

Yes, Smart Punctuation will use Unicode characters instead of ASCII apostrophes. These have to be encoded, and the bulletin board software is mangling that encoding (ampersand number semicolon) - as it has been mangling accented letters for ages - presumably in an over zealous attempt to prevent profanity on the board, or links to scam sites visually similar to well-known ones.

I’m not smart enough to know how to do that. Is it a forum setting, or an iPad one?

He didn't use an IFA, I set him up a SIPP with Fidelity, and asked him to write to the pensions administrator for a statement of pension input amounts for the last 3 years so I'd have an accurate picture of contributions.
