Hi folks,
I have a dual boot computer with windows 10 and 7 and have done the major updates on 10 such as creator update etc.
I know that it saves your old windows files which take up quite a bit of space especially on an SSD, but can't remember whether you get the option not to save old windows. (I don't have to as I have an acronis backup anyway)
Anyone remember whether you can opt out of saving old windows before install of major update. I know you can delete it afterwards but I am concerned only with available disk space on the SSD and opting out would be the ideal solution for me?
Thanks a lot for any info.

You can't "opt out" as such with Windows 10 (the ability and need to revert to a previous build is par for the course as each update tends to break something) but you can run Disk Cleanup that will remove the files.0

The lack-of-disk-space-at-major-update problem is even worse for the tiny netbooks which only have 32 GB of "disk space". Quite drastic deletion measures with files and folders often have to be taken before the update will work.0

Thanks for replies. Well windows 10 has 121gb used space and 62gb free.....does that sound like enough free space to handle a major update?
I probably could allocate some space from my windows 7 partition free space on the same SSD should the need really arise, but I would hope not.

62Gb is more than enough. If Windows 10 can't do it with that much space, we have a problem somewhere0

win10 is <30gb"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0
