Faulty Item purchased online Spanish store

Hi
My boyfriend purchase shoe shoes online for my Christmas present last year (store is based in Barcelona)
I wore the shoes on 2 occasions for indoor dancing and they had lots of big scratches at the end of the night. Note I did not dance on gravel.
I ended up sending them back to the Spanish store and they emailed and said that because I used them for dancing, these things happen! Essentially they would take no responsibility for the shoes which cost over €130.
They are advertised as dance shoes. In fact, there are photos on the website of a Couple who are swing dance teachers.
Their website says ‘swing shoes for swing people.’
What are my consumers rights under the EU? Any helpful advice would be appreciated.
Thank you
Connie

This is a UK site so limited advice potentially available here.
I'd recommend contacting the European Consumer Centre.

Scratches are physical damage, you won't get anywhere with this.0

Where were the scratches?
The shoes are a glittery gold colour and the scratches are large and on the front of the shoes.
Basically if I didn’t care about the look and just wanted any dance shoe. I wouldn’t have purchased them in the first place.
Also I hve 3 other pairs of dance shoes that do not have such design which comes off so easily. In fact, none of them have visible scratches which make it so obvious there’s a defect With the material.0 -
Are they scratch proof? Of course not, if you're getting dragged along by your toes then that's nobodies fault but your own. The scratches are a by product of being dragged across something hard, that's not something you are going to be able to claim is faulty.0

Yep you got me. I decided to get dragged by my toes across the dance floor. That’s exactly what I do. I created a new type of dance. It’s called Trollied tango.0 -
