UK bank account when not in the UK

Hi all,

I might be out of the UK for a few months, which might turn to moving out of the UK permanently.

How can I keep my UK bank account going? I could change my address to my UK relative's house or ask the bank to send any correspondence to a European address?

Banks have different policies on this - some are happy for a customer to continue to operate an account when resident abroad but others aren't, so it would help if you said who you bank with....

Have you checked the Ts & Cs yet?

Mainly Nationwide, but I also have an old TSB account.

If you have a "friendly" address, say parents or sibling, and especially if its only for a few months, move it to that.

I dont think you need to do anything except for that you should change your address to a relative's.

Many banks either have branches abroad or have partner banks that they work with, possibly wherever you are going to. e.g. Santander, Barclays, HSBC

I moved to the Republic of Ireland and just advised my banks of my change of address.

They found it hard to comprehend at first and the Irish postal code system foxed them for a while but they sorted it out.
