Porch base - how hard to diy

I plan to have a porch built soon with a timber frame. I have someone who will build it for me but he doesn't do concrete bases. I have had one quote - £800 for a 2.8m x 1.2m base with two layers of brick to build on. I don't really know if this is OK as I haven't managed to get a second quote.
I was wondering how complicated it would be to diy. Dig out? have concrete ready mix poured in? I have some damp proof membrane left from having an extension built. Should I use that and how?
Eldest son has done a brick laying course so should be able to manage the brick layers.
Any help, information, advice and ideas on price gratefully received

How deep/thick do they plan to lay it? If it's on top of the existing ground, then the quote is expensive. If it's going to be dug in and 20cm thick then digging out, clearing spoil, shuttering, sand, cement, bricks and labour for the day, that all seems reasonable.

I wouldn't be laying concrete if the temperature is forecast below 5 degrees though. Even if they use accelerators in the mix.
