Getting accepted for a high interest current account

Hi
Having finished university in 1999 and some bad overspending I ended up with a managed loan with HSBC and a CCJ for university fees in 2000. I've paid both back and have been debt free for a couple of years and have also moved from the address that my CCJ was registered at. I earn a decent salary and would like to open a high interest current account instead of the rubbish rate HSBC one I have, however, I'm terrified of applying and being refused and damaging my credit history! I know CCJ are supposed to disappear after 6 years but does anyone know if you have to declare old ones on new account applications? I also only have a solo card (am to scared to ask HSBC for a maestro in case they say no!), do you think this will be a problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

why not try Alliance and Leicester's Premier Direct account. There are other basic accounts that also give you a Maestro debit card or indeed a Visa 2 in 1 card now such as Clydesdale Bank.0

I would try for the maestro card from hsbc first; you should have shown you're in control of things now so that should be in your favour.
High interest current accounts aren't always that great; you can achieve the same interest by using esavings accounts cleverly.0
