PiP Home Assessment Queries

Options
I had a lot of problems filling in my PIP form, just gave up and lost it with the last two questions relating to mobility. But sent the form in. My support worker (social worker) phoned PIP up and this is what they said to do.

I was advised to request a local assessment, they are actually doing a home assessment this Friday which is a lot quicker than I expected. I included a social work care plan, my diagnosis and what was available from an OT assessment re things they are going to do with the social housing I rent (new kitchen with some adaptations and an over bath shower.

Will my assessment be as tough as a centre based one?

I have looked at http://www.pip-assessment.support/ which points out the important things I should try to mention and I will have my support worker with me here. I am scared though as I have ASD as well as other physical problems and I get stressed, overwhelmed quite easily. I SEEM to be able to communicate well, but often just retreat into myself and don't mention most of the stuff I should (like at the GP), or I get verbal diarrhea trying my hardest to answer a question but no clue how to lolol. I'm scared this is going to happen with the PIP assessment. I shall try to write some notes but this may look a bit odd. Will it?

The things OT are going to do to the house, will this help my case or harm it as hopefully the changes will mean I am finally able to cook regularly? At the moment I can't. Also I said in the PIP form I don't bath as much as is considered normal, partly because water overwhelms me and I forget, partly cause of my physical problems. Obviously this should improve with a shower. I hate baths, ok with showers somehow.

The home assessment is exactly the same as any other assessment. The only difference is it's in your home. The questions they will ask will be based on the PIP descriptors. You should try to answer with as much detail as possible, remember they're trying to get a picture of you and what you can and can't do daily.

The adaptions won't affect your claim now because you haven't had them yet. When you do have them they will score you various points in the PIP descriptors.

As for the bath, you won't score points because you hate the bath, but could score points if you're unable get in the bath, or if you need assistance.

    Good luck.

My Mum had a home assessment and one at the centre ..i went with her on both and they are exactly the same... the only difference in my eyes is that they have cameras on assessment buildings (so i have been told) to watch you walk in for mobility issues etc.

Its all about how you do the activities and what support or aids you need to do them or why you cant do them.

Hope your assessment goes well xx
