Forgot to buy a ticket - now too late

I did read through the newbies thread, but unfortunately the advice doesn't apply to me as I haven't received a PCN yet.
I sometimes park at my local train station which is an NCP car park. It functions via ANPR and has parking ticket machines in the car park. However, as I am usually in a rush I usually buy my ticket via RingGo online rather than waiting in the queue for a paper ticket. Today, I was in an even bigger rush than usual and somehow it slipped my mind to buy a ticket. It is always the same price, £6 something for the whole day (up to 23:59 on the day you buy it) so I went to log on to Ring Go and buy it quickly but as it was after 10am once I remembered the price went down to £2 something.
My question is, should I contact NCP (which would mean giving my name, contact details, and explaining that I did in fact not pay for a ticket) and explain the situation, and hope they have mercy on me and allow me to just pay the £6?
The advice about not giving any personal details and not admitting liability is useful for a PCN but not sure if it applies at this point. Basically I'm worried that if they say "No sorry you have to pay" then I won't have any recourse to avoid the fine.
Obviously this is all due to my own forgetfulness, but would appreciate any advice on how to act now.

Wait till you get a Notice to Keeper. If this was a station covered by byelaws there is a chance you will here no more about it.0

Thank you, do station bylaws tend to prevent private companies from issuing PCN's then?0

I had a a similar issue with Britannia a while ago. Parked on a Thursday. Remembered the following Monday that I hadn't paid. Too late to pay on line. Phoned them up. They were really nice and let me pay over the phone. They charged me a small admin fee; might have been £5.
So unless you are one of these people who think you are entitled to park in private car parks and not pay, I would say do the decent thing and contact them now.0 -

Worth a try.Thank you, do station bylaws tend to prevent private companies from issuing PCN's then?
It depends if the car park is on railway land or not. Not all NCP car parks are. So check with the council who pays the non-domestic rates or check the Land Registry. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
